Chris Shoap has worked in Law Enforcement for approximately 21 years.  He began his career at the age of 17 working as a Records Clerk, became a state certified Corrections Officer at the age of 19, and then a state certified law enforcement officer at the age of 20.  Chris quickly moved up the ranks making Detective where he worked as a Property Crimes Detective and was then moved over to the Intelligence Division as a Task Force Agent assigned to Regional Domestic Security Task Force / FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force for Region 6 of Southwest Florida. He handled threats and investigations dealing with both domestic and international venues.

In 2006 Chris was reassigned to the Gang Unit as a Detective and Training Officer. The unit was later expanded to (7) Detectives and a civilian analyst.  Chris was then promoted to Sergeant to supervise the Gang Unit and oversee a Federal Grant. The Gang Unit worked in both an intelligence gathering and enforcement capacity. The LCSO Gang Unit worked hand in hand with Narcotics to combat criminal street gangs in the Southwest Florida region. These investigations bridged the Statewide Prosecutors Office, OSI and the United States Attorney’s Office.  Chris was chosen as one of two people from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office to travel to Tallahassee, Florida, as a subject matter expert to help write a new advanced curriculum for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for training new officers on Gang Identification and Recognition.

In 2009, Chris retired from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and moved to Tennessee where he went to work for the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office. Chris took over all of the Gang Investigations for the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and also worked as a Patrol Officer.

Chris holds several instructor certifications including Defensive Tactics, Firearms, Force on Force, Field Training Officer, Citizens Response to Active Shooter, and Response to Terrorist Bombings.  Chris is also skilled at -Investigations (Property and Violent Crimes), Surveillance & Counter Surveillance, Intelligence, Money Laundering Investigations, Gang Investigations, Counter-Terrorism Investigations, and Counterintelligence.  Chris is considered a subject matter expert on gangs.
